Commercial Washer-Extractor Buying Guide

Capacity, G-force, controls and mount type — the four things that actually decide which commercial washer is right for you, explained in plain English.

1. Capacity (lbs of dry laundry)

Commercial washer-extractors are rated by the dry weight they hold per load — commonly 20, 30, 40, 60, 90 and 130+ lbs. Bigger isn’t automatically better: an oversized machine run half-full wastes water and energy, while an undersized one forces extra cycles. Size to your daily poundage, not to the biggest machine you can afford.

2. G-force (extraction speed) — the number that saves you money

G-force is how hard the machine spins water out of the load at the end of the cycle, and it’s the most under-appreciated spec. Higher extraction means less water left in the linen, so less time and gas in the dryer — the biggest ongoing cost in most laundries.

  • Rigid-mount, ~100–200 G: lower cost, needs a bolted-down concrete base. Great value for many OPL rooms.
  • Soft-mount, 300–400+ G: higher spin, dramatically drier loads, and no special foundation — can go on upper floors. Costs more up front, pays back in drying savings and linen life.

3. Controls: from simple to fully programmable

Entry-level machines offer a handful of preset cycles. Programmable (OPL) controls let you build wash formulas for different linen types, dose chemicals automatically, and track cycles — worth it any time linen quality and consistency matter (hospitality, healthcare). For a coin laundry, you want vend-ready controls and payment integration instead.

4. Mount type, utilities and service

Rigid-mount machines are cheaper but require a proper concrete foundation; soft-mount machines are more flexible on placement. Whatever you choose, confirm electrical, water, drain and (for the dryer) gas capacity first, and buy from someone who stocks parts and services locally. A cheap machine with a six-week parts wait is the most expensive machine there is — which is why we keep genuine OEM parts on the shelf in Miami.

Frequently asked questions

G-force is the extraction (final spin) intensity. Higher G-force removes more water from the load, cutting drying time, gas use and labor. It’s often the single biggest driver of a laundry’s running cost.

Rigid-mount is lower cost but needs a bolted concrete base and spins slower. Soft-mount spins much faster (drier loads), installs without a special foundation and can go on upper floors — better long-run economics for most operations.

Match capacity to your peak daily poundage and cycle window rather than buying the biggest machine. We can size it precisely from your numbers.
